Glass & Sand
Glass & Sand Transome

Aug 7th, or there abouts.. I removed all 60odd rivets that holds the top of the boat to the bottom.. not to hard(cept on the arms), now we can work better on the bottom and top separately, I think of it as a frame off restoration in automobile terms. This was only easy because it is a small boat, and there is no back splash section at the back of the boat..(this may change).

Aug 14th, with a little of my help my brother Steven and I removed the wood deck and transome from the boat so that we can replace both with new parts.

Sept 4th, Steven and I flip the bottom over so we can repair the now big crack at the bottom of the transome with some fiberglass, we think starting on the outside would be best. so we take some duct tape into about 6 or 7 strips and hold the bottom together and then we take some fiberglass cloth in 4in widths about 4-5in length and stipe the bottom in a front to back configuration then we take one long peice and go left to right and a little up the sides.. perfect!!

Sept 19, a little time off to welcome the new brackett to the family Emily Elizabeth born Aug 18. I spent the afternoon with some 80grit metalide sand paper and a good palm sander and proceeded to sand down the whole boat(well almost just have a 3-5' section on the back left side) I think I did a pretty good job, as the paint had some good surface cracking, plus there were some dings here and there, and I just wanted to sand it down to try and get to a good suface to throw on some primer/filler paint after filling in some little gouges, I then took some grey BONDO w/hardener and smoothed out the transome abit and fillin some of the gouges and low spots, in a probably futile attemp to straighten out the final look of the boat.. the next step will be to put some more glass on the keel up in the front, where there is a crack there to and I want to do a criss-cross with some glass tape then drop a long peice down the length of the keel to probably mid-ship to just add a little more thickness where it has been worn away, then I will bondo that, then sand that down as well as the transome, then Steven suggests some red BONDO to fill the rest in abit more finer, then maybe we can paint on a couple coats of primer, then some regular bottom paint(white) and gel coat it I hope.. or something to seal it..  but before we prime it I want to get the transome finnished by sanding down the inside of the transome and drop the wood in to help strenthen it before we paint it, and turn it over and have the paint crack on us..
